We select this restaurant for dinner at random and we got lucky. The service is excellent, the lady is very friendly and helpful! We had the drunken garlic pork ribs (蒜香醉排骨) and hot and sour fish with Chinese pickled cabbage (酸菜鱼), it was absolutely yummy and the portion of the fish is out of this world, totally worth the price. Would definitely recommend to others and revisit next time if I happen to be in Nelson again!
What an absolute gem! This place is easily the best Chinese spot in Nelson — top-quality food, full of flavour, and you can tell it’s made with real care. Every dish we had was spot on, fresh, and beautifully cooked. We’ve tried a few places around town, but this one’s on another level. Proper tasty food, generous portions, and great value for money. If you’re after an amazing Chinese meal in Nelson, this is the place to go. Can’t recommend it enough!
I stayed in Nelson for two days and ate at this restaurant twice. The food is really good, with an authentic Chinese flavor. The owners, Chen and his wife Cindy, were very nice. They recommended delicious dishes and nearby tourist spots, making us feel very welcome. The sizzling chicken and beef, Peking-style ribs, and fish-flavored pork were all incredibly tasty. I’ll definitely come back next time. Besides please try the chill source it’s homemade omg so good !!!
I’m Chinese and been travel in NZ for months. This Chinese restaurant is by far the best one I ever eaten. All food is big portion and very high standard, must try the pork 红烧猪肉, soft and melted in your mouth. Don’t miss it‼️
Very authentic and delicious Chinese restaurant! Great quality/ price, evening we had was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back.
Our Order: 1x Sweet Corn Soup with Mashed Chicken – $8 1x Wonton Soup – $8 1x Drunken Garlic Ribs – $23.90 1x Honey BBQ Pork – $10 1x Deep Fried Chicken – $9 2x Small Rice – $3 each We were really impressed with the food. The Drunken Garlic Ribs were the highlight—crispy, full of flavor, and definitely something we’d recommend trying. The Wonton Soup was super soothing, and the wontons were just right. We also really liked the Sweet Corn Soup—nicely seasoned, and the combo of corn and chicken worked really well. The Honey BBQ Pork had a unique taste we hadn’t come across before. It was a bit unexpected that it was served cold, but still enjoyable. The Deep Fried Chicken was tasty and went well with the rice. The owner was so kind and welcoming—he even poured our water for us! You can tell he really knows his food and puts care into every dish! All in all, we had a great time and would give this place a solid 10/10. Would happily come back! 💕
First time here and my experience at the Oriental Restaurant was quite satisfying. Their food portions were generous. Taste-wise, everything I sampled was delightful, we particularly like the sour pickled fish soup. The cleanliness of the dining area also deserves commendation. Pricing was reasonable. While service was attentive, reaching out to the waitstaff could be challenging at times, especially with the dine-in area located on the first floor while they primarily operate on the ground floor. However, the quick takeaway meal section downstairs was a convenient alternative.
